10 Strange Paranormal Powers and Phenomena – Part 2

Crop Circles

I would hazard a guess at most people knowing what crop circles are, but if you don’t, in short it is strange and often expansive patterns that have been found in many crop fields around the world, with many pictures of the phenomena available to view online, many of which come from the USA and United Kingdom.

Although it is possible for humans to make these crop circles, and there are many who do it, others have argued that some of the patterns are too complex to be completed within the time frame that they can suddenly appear in, which is usually overnight, as well as the delicacy it is performed in, often without damage to the crops as well as lack of tracks left in the fields that would surely be there if done by people. Many people have attributed it to aliens and UFO activity, leaving behind patterns for us to observe or a way of trying to communicate with us or warn us about something.

Some of the first recorded crop circles appeared in the UK where they originally had a much simpler design, often just being one or two different sized circles in a field. A crop circle in Wiltshire on August 1980 is claimed to be the very first reported to the press, in this account a farmer called John Scull had discovered crop circles in his fields. This discovery of crop circles wasn’t the first time he had found one in a field, which measured 60 feet or 18 meters in diameter, but he had assumed it must have been caused by the weather and so ploughed over it.

Later on, two more crop circles appeared in nearby fields, much bigger and advanced in design, Scull found that the crops were still growing and strangely were not damaged and there were no tell-tale tracks from trespassers that could have explained in making them. This prompted the farmer to send in a report to the local press to see if anyone had an explanation.

The above story expanded when two artists called Doug Bower and Dave Chorley claimed they had been the ones secretly making the crop circles in the area, with photographs to prove it. People have debated over the claims ever since with people saying it isn’t enough evidence to show they were the ones who created the circles and that they were lying to get famous. Nonetheless, Doug and Dave, whether they lied or not have inspired other free-lancing artists to partake in this kind of activity, whether D&D actually did it themselves or not.

The crop circle phenomena really went global in 1990 after UFO writers Pat Delgado and Colin Andrews released a book in the previous year called Circular Evidence, displaying numerous photos of crop circles and became an international best-seller. Since then it has remained one of the great wonders of the paranormal and world of the unexplained.
