Hey all. Right now I am extremely busy due to everything going on, the moving to a new place thing in the middle of doing a three month long IT course kind of thing. So you can imagine I am pretty busy. Luckily the IT Course allows you to decide your own time to study, but I still need to get in the minimum hours each week for me to be able to complete the course, as anyone knows who has studied or done an online course or whatever, it is very important to meet the hours, and even really to get ahead of the curve, this is even more so the case for me with the moving and uncertainty that surrounds all of that.
Considering also the course I am doing allowed you to do it over 6-months, but for me doing it as a pilot through the Prince’s Trust we have to try and meet three months, which means disregarding all of Coursera’s schedules and deadlines and meeting the 3-month one instead.
But really, I am having a lot of fun doing it so far and I feel very lucky I am getting to do this for free, as in the future this course will cost money for people to enroll in it. So I want to take that special opportunity and get it done. So far I have learned about the basics of IT from computers to mobile devices, binary basics, and program basics, as well as a little history of computers. All of it is super interesting as I use computers pretty much all the time, and pretty much have a basic fundamental knowledge on a number of things already, but I have also learned lots of interesting things I had never thought about.
Even cooler, I have learned about all the different parts and components of computers, and how to build one. Many people, like myself originally, hear the sentence “building a computer”, and instantly assume it is very complex and difficult and would take a very long time to learn. This is very much not the case, now-a-days building your own desktop computer is very simple, you can easily learn how to do it even if your knowledge on computers is short, that’s how easy it is. Just at least give it a look into before disregarding. To me, putting the componenets together for a computer is as simple as fitting pieces of LEGO together.
In reality, I’d say learning how to do it could easily be done within a week (especially if you already have a basic fundamental knowledge of computers, of which anyone who uses computers every day, such as for work or even just gaming, pretty much does),
Sure you may still not be confident with building a computer after being brought through a guide (as I am still not), but I strongly believe with the knowledge I have learned over just a few days this week, I could and should be able to put together a functioning desktop computer.
I still do though need to learn about installing the operating system, that comes next, but again it should not be too difficult. It really is just the basics for now, and I am not gloating, it really is easy to learn this current stuff that I have mentioned, I believe the vast majority of people have it in them, so get out there and give it a go, there are many free tutorials on the internet that will allow you to learn, and maybe one day I will put together my own tutorial on this blog.
I guess one of the things I have struggled with so far is the limited maths that has been involved, and also just numbers in general such as when it comes to converting a binary value into a numerical value, or figuring out how long it will take for a 1 gigabyte file to travel across something that allows 380Mb/s. As is the case with me, mathematics and numbers are not my strong suit. But I am still learning nonetheless as this course is for everyone, regardless of where they stand in their knowledge, and ultimately that is what matters, and so just because you have some weak point, does not mean you cannot still learn and successfully complete something.
So although I am a bit stressed at the moment and a bit unhappy I cannot stick to my usual schedule with this blog, I am still having a lot of fun and I am looking forward ot fully moving over into my new place and starting an independent life.
My aspirations following the IT Course will be for me to try and either achieve a job or perhaps some kind of apprenticeship in the tech industry/sector. If that happens do not worry, this blog will still continue and maybe it will even transform this blog into something new and better. So I am looking very forward to the future at the moment, a lot is going on but soon it shall all be done and dusted and I will be on to the next big step.
I will try as best as I can to keep this blog updated on what is happening during this big moment in our lives, and I emplore anyone else to follow what they want to do, and find ways to do it, such as organisations and charities that may be able to help you, like me and the Prince’s Trust. For everyone their path is different, and therefore what works for them is different, so you just have to keep experimenting until you find something that fits you. I think I might have finally found mine, and it was blindly in-front of my face this whole time, I am clueluess as to why I never considered it until now.
