Could Boris Johnson Bounce his way Back In?

For some reason I like using the word ‘bounce’ when talking about Boris Johnson and it doesn’t have anything to do with his affect on the polls. But… anyway, can he make a comeback?

I and many others hope not. But here we are facing such a crazy possibility in what has been an absolutely bonkers week in our politics. Who would have known that all this could go down in such a short period of time? And now we have a new shortest serving Prime Minister in British history for the trivia enthusiasts. The fall of Liz Truss was quite a brutal one. And the level of desperation to elect a new Tory leader as soon as possible says it all really.

It is really an unfortunate thing to happen during the current cost of living crisis. We are currently in a time where we need stability more than anything else and it is clear under the current administration – or lack thereof – it is not seemingly possible to get that. I feel that no matter who is elected the new Tory party leader there will still be a lot of division and infighting. So, in my own view the only way to fix this mess is to have a general election as soon as possible so we can get back to a stable government who can put together a sensible plan to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.

I think in the end we are heading for an early general election nonetheless which is why one should just be called as soon as possible to get it over and done with and return to the current crisis afflicting so many. If one is not called now (which it probably won’t be) I suspect we shall be seeing one called perhaps not too long after the New Year, that’s my prediction. I don’t really see how it is sustainable to keeps things in their current form for much longer.

The fact that Boris Johnson has a fairly reasonable chance of becoming leader again after the whole fiasco we went through only not too long ago really goes to show the dire and broken state we are currently stuck in, which is why we need a refresh through an election. Unfortunately, it is pretty clear as usual it is party over country. MPs are more afraid of their party suffering than the common people who are currently suffering – struggling to feed their families, put on the heating, and surviving off the bare minimums of life.

Entertaining the idea of having another PM under the current get-up, the best in my eyes for stability is Rishi Sunak, but again I believe even he will not be able to keep the current stark divisions in the Tory party at bay for too long. I do believe both Sunak and Johnson will be getting to the 100 MP mark by the Monday deadline and that the members will then have their say, meaning the strong possibility of Johnson getting in again. I can only hope that I am wrong.

And speaking of this little Tory election meaning to be a unifying moment for the party, the slogan of ‘Boris or bust’ already appearing through a spearhead by Jacob Rees-Mogg pretty much shows the stark divisions in full light. This will be far from a unifying moment for the party, whoever wins.

At least the weekend is here and some of us can relax, or try too. Now, I shall be getting my head down and studying for my driving theory test next week!

Oh, and in other news I am hoping to get my blog post done on the Royal Navy. I should be able to make time to fit in working on it next week. Wish it was out ages ago but here we are, it is what it is.
