Enter the Gungeon #2 – Made It

Straight into it, I blast my way through the first few rooms, determined this time to beat the first chamber, I still get hit a few times as I continue to fail at dodging, and then come upon a cell key, ‘what could it open,’ says the games dialogue, I guess we’ll find out some point later.

In the next room I witness an enemy kick over a table for defense – I did not consider that enemies could also do this and appreciate the added complexity of the enemies.

I soon come across the boss room, but first decide I should try and find a better weapon first, as the sawed-off, although not too shabby against normal enemies thus far, I have found that against bosses it isn’t as good as you have to get dangerously close to their deadliness, and the other gun – the budget blaster – I hate, so on with exploring I go.

In my exploration I come upon a new enemy, called the Gigi, some kind of bird, (which at first I mistook for a large flying fish) that belches out egg-bullets at me? I take the fool down with a single blast of my shotgun, but am only left with one heart of health, which is not what I wanted.

Soon I hit success as I find a chest room with a large black chest within it, the chest I have never seen before, I am unsure if different sizes and designs of chests mean anything so far or if they are merely aesthetical. Anyway, I forget the controls and as I attempt to open the chest I waste a blank by accident, shattering everything in the vicinity.

Within the chest I find a new gun, called the composite gun, I carelessly waste ammo testing its seemingly powerful blasts and decide to save it for the boss, confident this time it won’t blow up in my face like the glass cannon did.

But now before I head back to the boss, I must seek health, as I could not hope to take it on being so low and vulnerable. And so after blasting my way through bulletkin, a nitra, a bubulon and a flying book… a chest appears… could it be health?!

But then I am hit by a setback… I have no blasted keys to open it! Up until this point I didn’t realize that chests required keys to open and I had not entirely known the usage of keys, but I guess it makes plenty of sense. And so my quest expands to not only searching for health… but also a key.

Quite soon after I come upon the beefy moustache man’s shop and I am presented with both of the things I want, but with the catch of only being able to afford one or the other. And so, I choose the safe option – health. Better than gambling with a chest.

The beefy moustache man nods his head approvingly at my choice and I move on. I decide to explore the last direction left to me before heading to the boss.

I fight some bulletkin and various bullats, annoyingly getting hit in the process – but I get a key for my efforts… and then the final room is a chest room and I use the key there… and out plops a ring.

‘Some rooms are familiar,’ whatever that means. The almanac enlightens me, I deduce that perhaps if I beat the boss and head on, it may come in useful. The lore alongside the cartographer’s ring also speaks of five floors… I keep that in mind as I head for the boss.

Once again to slight dismay I am faced with a new boss… the trigger twins. Luckily the composite gun shredded through them, I took down one of the twins, making the other go on a temper tantrum, but I prevailed. I am greeted with a bunch of items, including a shield added to the end of my hearts, I assume similar to soul hearts in the Binding of Isaac. I also get a giant bullet that shoots guns that shoot bullets – genius.

I am then lead into an area that I guess goes to the next chamber, but a further room behind that included a cell containing a woman and some big hulking robot thing. I cautiously unlock the cell and head in… so that’s what the cell key was for!

I am greeted and thanked by a woman and her clunky guardian (I assume) called Ox. It would appear they are NPCs who will head back to the main area (called The Breach) and perhaps provide some form of help.

And so… after that… I now prepare for the next chamber. I then waste the time of a red talking button and head to save and break. See you in the next challenge.
