Getting my Second Vaccination Shot is Turning into a Nightmare

Booking the first vaccination shot and getting it administered? Easy. Getting the second one booked? Not so easy…

Unfortunately the vaccination center in my area has shut down, the the walk-in center that had been availalble for some time has also since left with no indication of when it shall be returning. For others, this may not be such a big deal, they could just book in a slot at a vaccination center in another town or city over… but for someone like me who cannot yet drive and still needs to learn how to use public transport, that is an issue.

So now I am stuck in the predicament as a vulnerable person of being half-vaccinated, due for my second shot but with no way of currently being able to get it. All I can do is either wait an undertermined amount of time to see if the vaccination bus comes back, or try and get my sister or social worker to take me to an appointment. But again here, more issues.

My sister has a very busy work schedule now a days, so trying to fit that around booking a vaccination appointment in another town over, or going into a walk-in center another town or city over is very tricky, it could be a month or longer until the stars for that align, if they do.

And as of now my social worker is on a three week break so that as of now is not an option, but even outside of that, again fitting the schedule around traveling somewhere out of town will be difficult within the current time slots that my social worker does come over.

So as it stands I literally have no way of getting the second jab in the near future and I think this once again shows the lack of consideration for access for vulnerable people and also towns and more rural areas still being overly neglected. I think for the size of the town where I currently live, the doctor’s clinic is well overdue an upgrade, but that’s another story in of itself.

Also, since there are still a couple more age groups who still need to get the vaccine, I do not understand really why the vaccine center at my local doctor’s clinic has been closed down so soon.

So unfortunately, there is not much I can do right now. It is very frustrating, especially when I am constantly being pinged on my phone that it is time for my second vaccine and that there are “many places where I can get it” – none of which I can get to. – “sorry, but I literally cannot get it at the moment”.

Anyway, I just needed somewhere to vent about this. I shall get back to studying now.
