Chapter 9 – Tellings of the Wheel
Is he dreaming now? Would make sense as he pretty evidently fell asleep in the last chapter. Looks like he is having uh… Dragon Reborn dreams. He said the Dark One’s true name I think and I am pretty sure he was at Dragonmount and then Tar Valon.
Bit of a crazy dream. Maybe there was some foreshadowing worked into it but hard to tell. I guess he will end up at Dragonmount at some point and it will be pretty significant. And maybe the Tar Valon part of the dream foreshadows he won’t be able to escape the white tower? I wonder when he will start channeling saidin…
At least Tam seems like he will be okay now. He is up and talking and Rand has explained to him what happened – missing out a few little details – but did say what Moiraine had said to him – so Tam knows he will be leaving. But Tam does not seem to say much else on the matter – choosing seemingly to keep what he knows about Rand’s birth a secret still – obviously not realising what he had been mumbling earlier with the fever.
We get a little more information dropped about Warders and their special abilities – although what is true and what is fiction is tough to say as it is only what Rand has heard from stories.
‘No use trying to put a broken egg back in the shell’ I like that saying from Tam.
Damn, too bad Rand cannot stay a bit longer to do some jobs with his father before leaving. But there you have it. Sounds like Tam might try and catch him up though when he is better… although perhaps he won’t like what he finds depending on the whole Dragon Reborn thing. Or maybe he was joking as it sounds more like he will stay – and fair enough as someone needs to tend their farm.
Man, Lan seems a lot more irritable and persistent in this book, huh? Feels like there is more of a darkness to him now? Maybe the affects of being a Warder rubbing off on him. And he keeps being rude to Rand! Did he always have such low regard for those not considered noble or royal? Is this Moiraine’s influence? I’d not have thought so.
These villagers are being overly brave trying to force an Aes Sedai out… or stupid perhaps. I mean, they’re going to be leaving very soon anyway. I thought the Mayor was doing quite well at calming things down at first but then…
…Moiraine just drops a monstrous history lesson on us about the peoples and great city that once existed in the area during the time of the Dark One and how they had fought tooth and nail against him and pretty much sacrificed themselves – and that everyone there basically should be ashamed of themselves pretty much. Wowie. Also gives us the origin of the name Emond’s Field coming from Aemon I guess.
Chapter 10 – Leavetaking

Well then. Gettting ready to go off on their big adventure. I feel like at least one of the young men are dying and it obviously won’t be Rand. But, maybe I’m wrong.
Damn, Perrin and Mat did not even tell their parents they were leaving – just left notes – that must sting.
Oh, and Egwene is coming to after discovering they were leaving with some fairly impressive investigative skills… also how does she not know about the Trollocs that attacked? Was she out of the village – she’s joking right cause I swear she was there helping the Wisdom unless I’m blanking.
And the Gleeman also comes out of nowhere (the loft that Perrin failed to check) and insists on coming to… as he wants to perform in Tar Valon.
Huh. There has to be more to this Gleeman, surely there is. Maybe I’m just thinking Wit from the Stormlight Archives too much… there was a lot more to him. There has got to be something with this guy, surely.
Well, off they go then. And better now than not otherwise they’ll end up having the whole village join them on the journey at this rate.
Ah, the village has some night patrols going now. Makes sense but I agree with Lan they probably won’t stand much of a chance against a few Trollocs.
Huh, so the Mydraal has like giant birds or bats under its command as well – a Draghkar – and I guess it is hunting for the boys. I imagine they are probably going to face off against the Mydraal again at some point before reaching Tar Valon.
Chapter 11 – The Road to Taren Ferry

This really does feel like the start to the Lord of the Rings and leaving the shire – I know I think I referenced that before – but now they are leaving the Two Rivers or are going to eventually after some traveling it really gives that vibe.
Damn Cloud is a fast AF horse – seems like quite a dominant and competitive one. I hope Bela can keep up! As you can see I am more concerned for animal welfare than the actual characters…hehe.
They have arrived at Watch Hill which I am pretty sure is still in the Two Rivers and they are also having Bel Tine – I didn’t realise it was not just Emond’s Field that celebrated it but I guess that makes sense. Well, at least they get to experience it to some degree. I was hoping to get a Bel Tine chapter at least before crap hit the fan – well, maybe we just might still – or not.
Ah, Moiraine is using her powers to get rid of fatigue from the horses and also from Rand and his companions. Damn, that’s powerful! But surely there has to be some limit to that? Like if they kept doing that something within the horses or people would break eventually… like they’d go insane or something. Damn, does that mean no Bell Tine then… not even a mutton pie? Rats.
Haha, of course as soon as the Draghkar attacks everyone is just in chaos all over the place apart from Lan and Moiraine and their two horses.
Well then – Watch Hill is long gone in their flight from the Draghkar and they have already arrived at Taren Ferry so that surely means they are almost out of the Two Rivers.
‘Hilltop’ and ‘Stoneboat’? That really the kinds of names they be having here?
Ah okay, so they have got to actually cross the Taren on a ferry. That is one literal name right there. I like it. Well, that was quite a shorter chapter – not a lot really happened. Mostly just a very brief look at Watch Hill – then the flight from the big bird bat thing – and then arrival at Taren Ferry and almost – I assume – out of the Two Rivers and further already than Rand has been in his life so far.
