I hope everyone is doing well. It has been quite a crazy week in the news so take your mind of it a bit by reading this post… and then you can go back to being stressed.
But really… try not to be stressed. Says me who stresses a lot themselves.
Anyway… let’s get to it.
I Am Now ServiceNow Junior Developer Material
After 10 weeks I have finally made it to the end of the ServiceNow NextGen course. I say ‘finally’ but really it felt like it went very fast and I am fairly sad that it is over as it was a lot of fun – but I am also very excited for the future.
It really was such a golden opportunity considering it was entirely free and opens up the door to so many potential careers within the ServiceNow ecosystem. As said I have already applied for one job and plan to apply for others later this month.
But although the course has finished the learning is not finished. Actually – learning is never finished – learning is for life (and a lot of people forget that). It is very important to keep your mind sharp. My plans going forward will be to take advantage of all further training offered by my future employers and to complete exams that will qualify me to move up the career ladder I shall be getting on to.
One of those first exams on that ladder will be the CSA exam which will enable me to qualify as a certified ServiceNow System Administrator and as such move up to more intensive roles with higher responsibility within my career.
The two fields I am most interested in is the ServiceNow System Administrator itself and also the Technical Consultant career path. These are the two I shall be focusing on most. But even for those who finish the course and find they are not so interested in all the technical stuff the ServiceNow partner employers offer a number of less-technical and non-technical career paths as well! So, even if you think ‘taking a technical path in IT is not for me’ don’t throw the whole thing out! There may still be something in it for you that is well worthwhile.
I am also very proud that I was able to have enough confidence to help present the final project application that I took part in creating with my team members. Talking in front of almost 100 people – which included potential employers – with my camera on – was no simple feat.
And although I had dreaded the final project from the beginning – in the end it all ended up working out and I got a very positive and confidence-boosting experience out of it – and I worked alongside some very smart and technically impressive individuals that I know will also be heading for promising careers themselves.
So what’s next for me now? Well… as already said applying for jobs, doing practice mock interviews before any real interviews. Studying and continuing on within the ServiceNow platform for future certification exams to advance my career even further. And I am also planning to learn some programming languages as well – starting with JavaScript and Python – I want to learn them inside and out and so shall be putting quite a few hours into it per week. And of course – getting a job which should not take too long now.
But I shall also be giving myself a break up until the 16th August (it extends to Tuesday as on the 15th I shall be having a fun day at Thorpe Park) before fully jumping into all that. This will also mean no blog posts next week, but expect blogposts to become more active again after the mentioned date as I keep this blog updated on my journey and do the posts I have said I am going to do.
I genuinely implore anyone struggling with what to do to look into the ServiceNow NextGen programme as it is so worth it. You may potentially not be able to do the course for free (I myself only was able to do so through the Prince’s Trust – others did it through business sponsorships and educational institution sponsorships and so on), but it is possible to instead do a paid commercial version of the course, although I know not everyone may be able to afford it.
A bit of a shorter Weekly Update this week but I am just getting ready to relax for a bit now before jumping back into things. Hope everyone is having a good Summer and also have a good weekend.
