Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year for a number of reasons and I have always looked forward to it and still do despite being 20 years old and not really doing as much stuff on the day as I use to, but for some reason I still look forward to it. Back when I was younger my mum’s closest friend would hold a big Halloween party where we’d all dress up into Halloween costumes, have lots to eat and just play games and the such as well as do a bit of trick-or-treating for lots of sweets and chocolate. We’d also carve pumpkin’s in the days before and get all the Halloween decorations ready and put up for the big day.
So here are 5 reasons why I love Halloween so much and why I am still fond of the day.
1. Pumpkin Carving!
I have always loved doing Pumpkin carving and have done it from a very young age so I know how to do it well and I am pretty good at it. I often have a bunch of stencils I use to make the pattern and then cut out all the pieces to get my complete Pumpkin, I even enjoy scooping the innards out!
Then once you have finished it is very satisfying to see the Pumpkin I carved become part of a decorative Halloween scene and having a candle lit within it for the first time. Pumpkins to me are just such an awesome way to decorate for Halloween.
2. Stuffing Your Face!
Halloween can be used as an excuse to splurge on fatty and sugary foods for much of the day in the spirit of Halloween, eating lots of sweets and chocolate has always been a big part of the day for me. But not just that, I also loved often having a buffet meal later on in the day as well that can include a bunch of different picky pieces such as sausage rolls, various meats, rolls, pizzas, spring rolls, garlic bread and so on.
Halloween for me was always a big feasting day and since I am a big foodie in general that was one of the big things I look forward to and still do look forward to each Halloween!
3. Halloween Themed!
Another big thing I look forward to for Halloween are updates that hit my mobile games, yes I am a big mobile gamer and many of these games often bring in Halloween themed updates for the duration or for most of the month of October.
Some of my favourite games I look forward for a big Halloween themed update is on The Simpson’s: Tapped Out and Clash of Clans which always come with Halloween themed updates and events that get me excited and going for the coming Halloween and festive season in general.
4. Checking out Halloween Displays
Similar to how I like checking out other houses Christmas displays I often like to see what many houses have made up for Halloween and some houses sometimes really do go all out and it is not just within my local area I also love looking through different social medias to try and find some truly spectacular Halloween displays that people have up and just to see the general effort that many people will go for.
Huge animatronics, lots of scenic decorations and of course unique things done using Jack O’ Lanterns is what I really enjoy looking for.
5. The General Atmosphere of the Day
I love the atmosphere of the time leading up to and on Halloween, there for me was always a certain energy in the air that made me love Halloween. The atmosphere can be largely made possible by my 4th reason for loving Halloween but outside of that there is that feeling about the day I just can’t put my hand on.
As well as that it is made more possible still on the internet as explained in 4 but also beyond that, the Youtubers I watch on Youtube often get into the Halloween spirit to and may do some interesting videos such as playing horror games, maybe carving a pumpkin and dressing up, perhaps doing a special Halloween-themed livestream and the such.
It all really gets me going for the time of year and the day and I love it so much.
And so with that, these are the main reasons why I love this time of the year and since it is only really one day it always goes by so quickly so it is best to make the most of it while it lasts.
If you celebrate Halloween I hope you have a great day!
