Joe Biden – Simply Gaffe-Prone?

For a while now I have bene noticing a number of blogs and some media and also a lot of people across social medias bringing up a number of videos of Joe Biden in interviews and while he is speaking at events and rallies and also in debates, including his appearances from recently (as in during this Primary season) and also from the last few years.

These videos show on many occasions that Biden appears to many times forget the words he is attempting to say during a sentence or he is incorrectly stating something that should be obviously incorrect and mis-remembering things such as the names of people or the year that something important happened or that Biden was involved with, as well as some other somewhat incoherent things he has seemingly come out with. Many people have been attempting to speculate over it being some kind of forming Dementia and also citing his old age as a factor, while others have said that Joe Biden has always been gaffe-prone in this way and that it is nothing new. Many of the videos are also only short clips and so some of them could have been taken out of context.

I myself have watched many of the videos and a number of the incidents do seem strange at first glance, but it certainly isn’t correct to speculate over a person’s mental/health state if you are not their doctor and it could very well be a number of other factors involved, such as stress. This fiasco reminds me of when Hillary Clinton was caught on camera struggling to stand after a 9/11 memorial event in New York City during the 2016 Presidential campaign and many people went into wild speculation over her having Parkinson’s disease and that she was unfit for office.

It is basically the same thing playing out again, but also once again when no one has the full information to make a definitive determination. Sure, his old age is worrying alone, and Biden has previously had health incidents (such as being treated for brain aneurysms shortly after dropping out of the 1988 Presidential race) and so people are of course worried that if he did win he may end up dying in office from old-age-prone health complications or that if he did happen to have Dementia, he would be functionally unfit for office. People often forget though that Donald Trump himself isn’t much younger than Joe Biden, also being in his 70s, although he somehow manages to look a lot younger than he is.

Looking at the recent enthusiasm ratings of Joe Biden, it is quite low in the Very category, far lower than Trump’s and ominously even lower than Clinton’s which is likely quite worrying for the Democrats and clearly shows that something isn’t quite right and it has even spurred some of the blogs I read to suggest other people who could potentially be nominated instead of Biden, if that is needed, although I highly doubt this will happen. Many people will now likely be looking towards the Running Mate that Biden will eventually choose as there is a reasonable chance that if Biden were to win and something does happen to him, that his chosen Running Mate who would then be Vice-President would take over as President.

Another problem also appears to be that Joe Biden becomes irritated and annoyed quite quickly which can lead him to snap at and insult some people, including those who were even considering voting for him, which is certainly not a good look and is likely something that he will need to work on, lest it be exploited by Trump during the Presidential debates later this year, which could very well have an effect on Biden’s ratings.

Although enthusiasm in Biden may be questionable from his supporters, Biden’s popularity is nonetheless high regardless, due to his stint as Barack Obama’s Vice-President and it is beginning to appear that he will be a better opponent to Donald Trump than Bernie Sanders would have been. For now, Biden leads Trump in the polls, but it is far too early to even think of doing a victory lap over that – we should not take note of the polls between Trump and Biden until at least the Presidential debates.
