My 5 Most Favourite Chocolate Bars

Ok so today I thought I’d go for a bit of a tame post about chocolate, specifically on what are some of my most favourite chocolate bars. Originally, I was going to list a random number of chocolate bars but then I thought I might as well make it into a list post with the often-chosen number of 5 so here we are.

Chocolate in my opinion and also many, many others opinions, is the one of the best things that exist out there as a treat. There is something about chocolate with its strong taste and the way it can melt as well as all the other ways it can be used as well in cooking up a treat. But one of the purest ways to enjoy chocolate is simply sitting down and opening up a chocolate bar. So let’s get to the list…

Number 5 – Maltesers (Specifically the version from the Celebrations box)
(the one from the Celebrations looks different to the above). Photo in Public Domain.

First up on the list are Maltesers, which yes, is kind of cheating as it isn’t really a “bar” of chocolate, but whatever it deserves a mention. In this you may be interested to notice I am not talking about the normal version of Maltesers, although they are also very good themselves. I am talking about the individually wrapped versions you get in the Celebrations chocolates boxes, which become popular usually around Christmas time.

I don’t know exactly why I prefer this version more, I guess it might have something to do with the malt being encased in thicker chocolate apart from the usually thin-coat that normal Maltesers have, which seems to make it even more tasty. But one thing for sure is that it appears to taste better than normal Maltesers, at least to me. It can be hard to explain exactly why, but it has to come to down to texture I guess and perhaps a richer taste.

Number 4 – Double Decker

Double Deckers are large Cadbury chocolate bars that contain two layers, the bottom layer being of pieces of biscuit and the top layer being nougat, all coated in a layer of milk chocolate to complete the bar. Yes, it sounds quite unhealthy and they can be a chore to eat as well, there has been a number of times I have hurt my gums on the pieces of biscuit combined with the tough nougat.

But it is a very filling and tasty chocolate bar. It is also one of my mum’s top favourites as well.

Number 3 – Toblerone

Toblerone is that fancy looking triangular pyramid shaped milk chocolate (also coming in white and dark chocolate varieties and perhaps others) that contains salted caramelized almonds. The chocolate is thick and has a very rich taste, especially combined with the almonds in it as well.

Often, I prefer having the largest variety so I can pick off a few triangles now and again to eat. The bar will easily tackle any snack-based hunger spot. Although I love dark chocolate, when it comes to Toblerone I prefer the milk chocolate version, mostly as it seems to melt better when eating.

Number 2 – Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is my absolute most favourite chocolate by itself, and it doesn’t have to be Cadbury Bourneville. Even basic cheap shop-brand dark chocolate is perfectly good enough most of the time. There is a certain taste to dark chocolate that has it being my top type of chocolate… in order…

  1. Dark Chocolate

2. Milk Chocolate

3. White Chocolate

If anyone read my Me and Food post from earlier this year (before the bad times of coronavirus had arrived) you may have already read that.

What I enjoy most at the weekends is having some plain dark chocolate which I break into squares and just suck on until they disappear and then repeat with the next square and so on, I like to savor my time with dark chocolate. I currently have two big dark chocolate bars on my desk that should last me four weekends.

Number 1 – Boost

And thus, we reach my most favourite chocolate bar, the Cadbury Boost. There is something unique about this bar that cannot really be experienced from anything else, the chocolate bar itself has this interesting biscuit-soft-chocolate caramel filling that is hard describe unless you have tried it for yourself, then the bar is coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate as usual.

I remember the first time I tried this bar (which actually wasn’t long ago, it was back when I was in college) and as soon as I took the first bite that chocolate bar shot straight up to being my absolute favourite. I really am not good at describing the taste of things (if you haven’t picked up on that already), so all I can say is that imagine some kind of rich soft chocolate and caramel mixture with a bit of biscuit in it, that’s the best I can do to explain.

And so there you have it, a quick Friday post about my top five chocolate bars. Next time I’ll probably do top 5 boxes of chocolate as that is obviously different, the Number 5 position on this list is kind of cheating I guess as it isn’t really a chocolate bar, more a piece of chocolate, but whatever, I have deemed it a special exception.
