The Paranormal Alphabet – X – The X-Files

So X was a hard one to come up with a topic on a creature such as a cryptid or some kind of paranormal entity and I could only find a few obscure cryptids that would only constitute to a very short blogpost and so I thought instead why not incorporate one of mine and my sister’s favourite TV series into this paranormal alphabet edition as it can allow me to cover numerous topics. So, on this I’m going to talk a bit about the X-Files and also talk about a real-life UFO encounter and also talk about government-related conspiracy theories.

The X-Files is a TV series, in-fact one of the longest running sci-fi TV series in history with it having 9 original seasons, a movie that was part of the original show and also another standalone movie. More recently the X-Files was rebooted with the original actors and actresses, albeit looking a lot older, in their roles which involved two new seasons with less episodes than what each original season contained, but still great to see it back on TV for the time it was… the question is will they make another season? It’s a mystery! Except we do know that Gillian Anderson, the actress who plays Daina Scully, no longer wants to reprise her role.

They could of course replace the actress or even worse, kill her character off to continue the show, but I am pretty sure none of us diehard X-Files fans want to see that happen and so it may simply just end where it ended at least for now. If they did do any of the above it could easily spell disaster for the show and even ruin it, which is why I very much doubt that they would do such a heinous thing.

But anyway, for those who potentially don’t know what the X-Files is or have somehow never seen it, which is perfectly possible, I myself only first watched it several years back. The show follows FBI agents Fox Mulder and Daina Scully who are working on something called the X-Files, it’s like a department that files and catalogues the unexplained and more mysterious cases that the FBI gets involved with and is delegated towards Mulder and Scully.

So, there are many episodes that are separated from the main story that focus on a specific case that can be to do with various paranormal subjects such as unexplained powers, abilities, UFOs, aliens, cryptid creatures, creatures of myth and legend and unexplained paranormal entities as well as the occult and many other strange and out-of-this-world subjects. Then there is the main story-line that is spaced throughout in various episodes which is heavily focused on government conspiracy and aliens.

Keep note that there may be some spoilers for the show ahead so if you haven’t seen it I advise caution going any further, although I am trying to avoid any spoilers as best as possible, it isn’t always entirely possible to totally avoid them when talking on various aspects. So, see this as a soft-spoiler alert line and that if you go any further you will may see some soft-spoilers. And if you haven’t watched X-Files yet and you are interested in the paranormal, conspiracy and aliens subject… then go and watch it now!

Anyway. My favourite character on the show for some reason is the Smoking Man. The very cunning deep-state individual who appears to have his hands in everything and to be keeping a close eye on Mulder and Scully throughout the show, a very mysterious character throughout the series There’s something about the shadowy power he holds and about his character that keeps me very interested as you just want to know more about him and how he got to where he is now, which you do eventually find out and they are some of my favourite episodes. The Smoking Man is very well acted and his scheming can keep you wondering, you know that overall, his not a good guy but you continually guess at his motives and agenda which is why his character is so interesting.

My favourite episode that involves the Smoking Man is called Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man (Season 4, Episode 7) as it is one of the episodes where you find out a lot of his background story and it really drives home how dangerous the character is.

There are also three episodes a part of the main storyline, known as the Alien Mythology Arc, that are my favourite, these are Anasazi (Season 2, Episode 25), The Blessing Way (Season 3, Episode 1) and Paper Clip (Season 3, Episode 2). For some reason to me this is where I really started getting interested in the main storyline, I did also like previous storyline episodes such as The Erlenmeyer Flask (Season 1, Episode 24) as well. Overall, I seemed to prefer the Alien Mythology Arc episodes over the case or “monster” episodes in-between, I guess due to just wanting to see how it evolves as well as those episodes often involving the Smoking Man! I remember also being really excited to see if they would ever come across actual outer-space aliens.

But just because the storyline was my favourite part of the X-Files doesn’t mean I disliked the other episodes! I like all of the episodes and it is interesting to see how each episode is based off of or inspired by real-life paranormal phenomena, cryptids, myths, legends and mysteries. My favourite episodes from outside the storyline in each season is as follows…

Season 1 – Is a tough choice between Conduit (Episode 4) and Squeeze (Episode 3). The concept of the “monster” in Squeeze is both terrifying and cool. I like the Conduit episode as it relates to ETs and conspiracy.

Season 2 – Is a tough choice between Irresistible (Episode 13) and Humbug (Episode 20). The Irresistible episode can keep you at the edge of your seat and is highly disturbing and to think that such pure manifestations of evil such as that can exist is frightening. Humbug I really like the humour in.

Season 3 – Pusher (Episode 17) is my favourite, due to the ability of the antagonist and what he is able to accomplish with it.

Season 4 – Is a tough choice between Paper Hearts (Episode 10) and Unrequited (Episode 16). The storyline of Paper Hearts is very sad but also interesting to follow and see what happens. Unrequited is a fun episode due to the power of the focus character and finding out why he is doing what his doing.

Season 5 – This season had a number of real good episodes in my opinion and is a tough choice between Unusual Suspects (Episode 3), Kill Switch (Episode 11) and Travelers (Episode 15). Unusual Suspects gives us some interesting origin backstory on the humorous Lone Gunmen characters. The Kill Switch episode is interesting due to it being focused on an intelligent AI and Travelers just has a really interesting episode that involves Mulder’s father as well as more government conspiracy.

Season 6 – By far my favourite episode in this is a two-parter, Dreamland (Episode 4) and Dreamland II (Episode 5) and is to do with a top-secret experimental craft that causes Mulder and Morris Fletcher, a “Man in Black” to body swap. The episodes are both interesting and funny.

Season 7 – The Goldberg Variation (Episode 6) is my favourite in this, to do with a man who appears to have far too much luck.

Season 8 – My favourite episode from here is Salvage (Episode 9). It’s about a man who appears to have super-human strength.

Season 9 – Jump the Shark (Episode 15) is my favourite here as Morris Fletcher returns and it also features the Lone Gunman. Also, a very sad episode. But a good episode nonetheless.

Season 10 – Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster (Episode 3). It’s a real funny episode and it reminded me of the original seasons.

Season 11 – Two episodes from this I really like, which are Plus One (Episode 3) and The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat (Episode 4) which is a funny episode inspired by the Mandela Effect. Plus One involves doppelgangers and people killing themselves, a very interesting and disturbing episode.

Out of the two movies, The X-Files (1998) is my favourite due to the part it plays in the main storyline.

So there… that’s enough about X-Files I think, if I go on much further, I will definitely end up spoiling things. But now let’s talk about some real-life alleged encounters with UFOs and also talk about government conspiracy theories!

UFO’s and Conspiracy

The UFO and Alien phenomena has been going on for a very long time, basically an alien is some being from outer-space that is not of this world, although a better word to use would be extra-terrestrial, as the word alien can have other meanings. Meanwhile UFOs as everyone pretty much knows now means unidentified flying object and does not always mean an ET space-craft or flying saucer. It’s just anything in the sky that cannot be identified as a typical aircraft, explained phenomena or bird.

There are those that believe UFOs can be both aliens from another world and also governments using secret advanced technology while others purely believe it is super-advanced secret technology being tested by the government and that aliens or ETs have not yet visited Earth and some go as far as saying that the government promotes and even fakes UFO sightings, indirectly promoting them as ETs through anonymous or 3rd party sources as a way to keep the public distracted from what’s really going on.

There are conspiracies that some of these secret aircraft uses reverse-engineered alien technology acquired from crashed or captured alien spacecrafts or that even some governments are secretly working alongside an alien or multiple alien races and are in-return getting access to this highly advanced technology.

It isn’t completely out there to question if the government is keeping things secret or new technology or aircraft creations secret as it has happened before and is probably very likely still happening, classified files very obviously exist and Area 51 was only officially acknowledged to exist as early as 2013, despite it clearly existing on Google Maps. Government spying on its own citizens was another popular conspiracy theory in various forms and it was shockingly discovered in 2013 that the NSA (in conjunction with other agencies, governments and entities) had been surveilling not only its own citizens but also foreign nationals, discovered thanks to the leaks provided by Edward Snowden, a former employee turned whistleblower who is still wanted by the US.

NSA.

The surveillance included monitoring and collection of internet traffic, data and communications, emails, phone data, text messages and calls, wiretapping of telecommunications, access to high-capacity international fiber-optic cables enabling collection of data from pretty much all communication technologies and also a program that could crack the encryption of online communications and data.

It can be quite incredible to think that such an operation as that, so large as it was, had been kept hidden despite all the many hundreds and thousands involved in it. If something this large can be kept hidden, what else could they be hiding? But of course, at the same time, speculation in this area leads to paranoia and that is where conspiracy theories can end up getting dangerous or out-of-hand.

One of the most popular conspiracy theories is that a secret group, such as the Illuminati (which is a whole wide conspiracy in and of itself if it even exists) or the Freemasons or “insert other conspiracy group or persons” and the actions of highly influential people with lots of money or “banksters” such as George Soros who are working to create and influence world events that will lead to the creation of a New World Order, a world under one worldwide government. This conspiracy comes in a wide variety of forms and variations and types, but all with the same or similar end goal.

There are also other… more dangerous conspiracies of whom certain groups are blamed for that I am not going to bring up. Dangerous in the fact that it can lead to said people being targeted due to the nonsense spouted by the believers. You can probably guess at least some of these people or groups commonly blamed and targeted for many things.

So that’s a brief overview of some common conspiracy categories. I’m not going to go over any specific conspiracies right now as this post is going to end up way too long. So next up we are going to go over a UFO encounter and an alien/ET encounter alleged to have happened or occurred to round this off.

The Kecksburg UFO Incident

The UFO incident we are going to go over happened near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania and is often called “Pennsylvania’s Roswell”. The incident begun on the evening of December 9th, 1965 when citizens of six-eight North-Eastern US states and also in Canada begun reporting a large fireball-type object streaking through the sky and some incidents of hot debris causing some grass fires and also loud sonic booms were also reported. After this some residents of the village of Kecksburg in Pennsylvania’s West-Moorland county reported that something had crashed into the nearby woods.

The crash site was quickly cordoned off by authorities on orders from both State Police and the US Army. Robert Gatty, a Staff Writer for the Greensburg-Tribune Review newspaper reported that no one was being allowed near to the crashed object and that State Police were securing the area ready for the expected arrival of U.S Army Engineers and possibly also civilian scientists, he also said the consistent explanation of the security measures is that the object-in-question was possibly contaminated with radiation.

Roads near to the suspected crash site were jammed with traffic with people simply curious to get a glimpse at whatever had fallen to the ground but many would turn around after being told by authorities that they would not be able to get near to the object.

One possible explanation for what people may have seen was that it was a high-altitude test rocket, but the National Guard and Air Force would later deny that any rockets had been fired during the time period of the incident witnessed over several US States and in Canada that crashed near Kecksburg.

One explanation offered by the CIA was that it could have been a meteor. But if this was the case, why did the crash site receive so much attention from Army Engineers and scientists and why was the area kept so secure from the public?

In 2005 NASA released a statement saying that experts examined metallic debris from the area which determined that they were from a Russian satellite that burned up in the atmosphere after re-entry and then crash landed, but also added records of these findings were lost in the 1990s, leaving some to be skeptical in this claim.

Interestingly more recent comments from NASA in 2018 have shied away from the above conclusion, saying it was more likely to be a meteor and also disputed the crash site. It reads…

There is some speculation that the reentry of the Cosmos 96/Venera-type spacecraft was responsible for a fireball which was seen over southwestern Ontario, Canada and at least eight states from Michigan to New York at 4:43 p.m. EST (21:43 UT) on 9 December 1965. Investigations of photographs and sightings of the fireball indicated its path through the atmosphere was probably too steep to be consistent with a spacecraft re-entering from Earth orbit and was more likely a meteor in a prograde orbit from the vicinity of the asteroid belt, and probably ended its flight over western Lake Erie. U.S. Air Force tracking data on Cosmos 96 also indicate the spacecraft orbit decayed earlier than 21:43 UT on 9 December. Other unconfirmed reports state the fireball subsequently landed in Pennsylvania southeast of Pittsburgh near the town of Kecksburg (40.2 N, 79.5 W) at 4:46 p.m. EST (although estimating the impact point of fireballs from eyewitness accounts is notoriously inaccurate). Uncertainties in the orbital information and reentry coordinates and time make it difficult to determine definitively if the fireball could have been the Cosmos 96 spacecraft.

Two investigators from MUFON, a non-profit civilian organisation that studies UFO sightings have speculated that the object was a General Electric Mark 2 Re-entry Vehicle that was launched by the Air Force as a spy satellite but that fell out of orbit. If this is the case then the secrecy around the incident could be explained, but the investigators have said that their speculation needs confirmation from NASA and the Air Force, who have so far said nothing on it.

Some TV programs on the incident have brought up more outlandish claims from apparent witnesses. One such is from the show Unsolved Mysteries where local residents were quoted as allegedly finding an acorn-shaped object about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. The object also allegedly had strange symbols on it resembling Egyptian hieroglyphs.

On a documentary show on the Sci-Fi channel called “The New Roswell: Kecksburg Exposed”, a Kecksburg resident called John Hays was interviewed and claimed that he witnessed a flat-bed truck removing the object from the site when he was 10-years-old, he also had told these claims to Unsolved Mysteries program before.

There is another outlandish claim as to what happened on that day, also featured on two programs, one called Ancient Aliens on the History Channel and beforehand on a program called Nazi UFO Conspiracy on the Discovery Channel. The claim was that what had been recovered from the crash site was a secret Nazi weapon known as Die Glocke or “The Nazi Bell” and is why the crash site received so much attention and that it was covered-up by the government.

The outlandish Die Glocke is widely seen as a hoax, it is a weapon that purportedly can use various paranormal powers or highly advanced technology, such as antigravity technology and/or time travel.

No one exactly knows what happened in this strange incident and this will likely continue to be the case, even if the truth has already outed, people will likely doubt it.
