The World of Lego

What do you like to call it, Lego or Legos? It can be up for debate at times between the US and UK… just like many words can be. For me I definitely prefer call them Lego and I have very much had a big fascination with Lego through much of my childhood and also still even now although I can no longer get any more Lego models as there is simply not enough room to display them in my bedroom anymore. You could be thinking “well just build them and then take them apart again after you’ve finished with them”. I simply cannot do this as it seems pointless to me building a model and then just taking it right down afterwards… models are for displaying and admiring!

I absolutely also will not mix my Lego model pieces together. I have a ton of loose Lego but none of it is from my own models and has all been gotten from charity shops and other 3rd party sources which is pretty much one of the only way to get lots of unique pieces that don’t really seem to come with loose Lego you can buy from The Lego Group themselves.

My favourite Lego sets come from Lego City, Lego Star Wars and Lego Architecture. Having clearly defined and set out structure for my Lego is why I much more enjoy Lego sets rather than just playing with loose Lego, I have never built anything significant from loose Lego and mostly just mess around with it whenever I do get it out. I do one day plan to sort-out all my loose Lego into specific pieces which will make them more easily used to build things when I know what pieces are where and also the right colours, otherwise it can be a bit of a nightmare.

I did get rid of some of my loose Lego because I simply just had way too much in the end. When I was younger, a child, me and my brother used to play with a mix of Lego and Mega Bloks which are the two best makes of small building blocks, pretty much any other 3rd party make outside of Mega Bloks isn’t very good, I can attest to as I have tried out many of them and in most cases there are pieces that won’t fit together properly, such as just not fitting together or being too loose, compromising the structural integrity of a model, pieces can also be more cumbersome and not as well designed, minifigures certainly aren’t as good as Lego, this is also true with Mega Bloks as well though, no one beats Lego in its minifigures… no one beats Lego PERIOD, but alas if you have to choose one, make it either Mega Bloks or Lego… but definitely Lego.

Lego also isn’t just confined to just models and loose Lego… there are also games, both board games and videogames. There are a number of Lego Board Games to do with moving pieces around a board made of Lego that me, my brother and cousin have played, one of my absolute favourite Lego board games was Lego Creator, where pieces were arranged on a board (just a normal cardboard game board this time) and you choose a card of what to build and what pieces you needed to build it and it is a race to who can build first by going around a board and it giving you instruction of what colour pieces you can get or whether you can get any special pieces or not.

The Lego Videogames on both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 were a big part of my childhood and my absolute favourites were Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman and the Lego Indiana Jones videogames. Me and my brother would have often played them for hours, I especially took a liking to Lego Indiana Jones 2 The Adventure Continues where you could also build your own levels! And Lego Stars Wars 3: The Clone Wars where there was this 2-player splitscreen versus mode where you built bases of buildings that defended or created units to attack and it was whoever could destroy everything and take over. Real fun.

So that is basically my time with Lego and it continues to be a lingering hobby of mine.
