The Yowie is pretty much Australia’s version of the bigfoot, the group of bipedal hominids many people believe exist in many different parts of the world of which there are many different varieties in places such as the US, Canada, Russia, Mongolia, the Himalayas etc. But the Yowie is one of the more known ape-like bipedal cryptids alongside the Yeti and Sasquatch.

It will be featured in a future edition of the Paranormal Alphabet and so I won’t say much more on it here but I have found a sighting that I will feature in this edition of Obscure Encounters.
The Sighting
This sighting was told of by a friend of the witnesses, Annette Jeffs, on the local ABC radio for Sunshine Coast of those who encountered the Yowie, Jeffs has said the two friends that had the encounter did not want to be named due to possible ridicule.
The sighting happened in the Imbil State Forest, Kenilworth, Sunshine Coast. The story was published on the local radio’s website on April 2014, but it isn’t exactly known when the encounter itself happened.
She starts off by saying that the encounter happened with a close friend of hers and that she does believe everything she tells her. The other witness was another friend that Jeffs knew fairly well, a school teacher.
Jeffs said that the two friends were out doing some night time photography, heading down the Fig Tree walk by torch light, opposite the Charlie Moorland campground. They were walking towards a creek when they noticed and both commented on a foul odour in the air, a foul odour is often one of the many common experiences in a bigfoot encounter.
Upon walking a bit further, they heard a sudden crunching noise ahead of them in the bush and that is when the full encounter took place, in the distance two big red eyes were staring back at them. The witnesses described it as being quite tall and that it kept moving away but every now and again turning back to look at them. They could not see the creature itself too well though and so shone their torches at it to try and get a better look, but could still only really see its red eyes.
Understandably, the two witnesses were scared and freaked out by the encounter and so started heading back towards their car, and kept turning their torches off as they feared they may be attacked. Upon approaching the car, they could hear their dog barking and freaking out, causing them some initial fear that the creature was now at their car trying to attack the dog.
Luckily this wasn’t the case and when they reached the car the dog was fine. After this they quickly drove home. Upon getting home they researched on their computer to try and find out what they had seen, where they found out about the Yowie. They wanted to report the encounter to someone reputable, but were afraid of being ridiculed at work.
