Me and Gaming! Part 1 of 2

So today I thought I’d begin typing up about what kind of games I am into and pretty much my history of game discovery and how it all went down, it ended up being quite large so I have split it up into two parts. I describe myself as a casual gamer, many would call me a “filthy casual” haha, but I don’t mind, that is typical internet language for you. But it is true, I am only a casual and I am not completely addicted and competitive and believe me, that is a good thing for me, I think playing games 24/7, especially stressful competitive ones, would end up putting me into a mental institution!

The first ever console I remember playing on is the Sega Megadrive, some Americans, if any are here, would know it as the Sega Genesis. I really loved it and my favourite game on it was Bomberman, it is so nostalgic thinking about it, specifically that one game as that is all I really remember playing on it as I was so young at the time. Unfortunately the console ended up getting a faulty wire and got thrown away and ever since I have not played on another one, but I do hope to get another at some point in the future, with a copy of Bomberman.

Then it was on to the Playstation, the first ever Playstation, also very nostalgic. The only games I really have memories of on there are the Crash Bandicoot games, the 2nd and 3rd one, but specially the 2nd one, I use to play all the time over and over again. As well as that we also had Crash Bash, an awesome battle game between different crash characters and a really fun and nostalgic 2 player versus mode with my brother and also doing the mission storyline game modes. After the PS1 broke it was lucky I could still play those games on the PS2… And also I have the new Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on PS4 currently.

After that it was on to the Playstation 2 which is the console I have some of my most prominent experiences with gaming on and is truly nostalgic to think about, a lot of the time me and my brother would play 2 player games on it, or I’d just play numerous games over and over again to do missions, these games included the Ratchet and Clank series, also my mum and my nan’s favourite game series, my favourite two out of the series are the 1st and 3rd one. Me and my brother use to also play 2 player versus each other so much on Ratchet and Clank 3, a big part of our childhood gaming memories.

Another game I have fond memories of is the Cel Damage Overdrive game, where you had these cartoon characters fighting in vehicles with a variety of weapon pick ups you found, a really nostalgic game that my mum and sister and also my nan use to also like playing, me and my brother would often play it against each other so much and we’d go through every single level start to finish and unlock the final secret level, this often took up most of the day.

And then let’s not forget about Grand Theft Auto, I had both Vice City and Liberty City Stories but I also had the most famous GTA game, one of the most popular of all time, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas! SO – MANY – MEMORIES of this game and so much nostalgia, me and my brother would play it all the time and we never ever fully completed the missions, we’d always just be searching for the so-called San Andreas mysteries such as Bigfoot, Leatherface, CJ’s mum’s ghost, Aleins etc and as well as all the Easter Eggs, the amount of Youtube videos we’d also watch on these things was crazy, we’d also watch lots of videos of the Online Mod for the game just so hoping that we could play it as it looked so damn fun. We also always use to mess around with the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas cheat codes as there was just such a huge variety, out of these my favourite was to have the Riot and Choas modes going at the same time along with the no wanted level cheat so I could just mess around on it for hours.

Also being me I loved the variety of vehicles and weapons and I’d often go up on the games wiki and read up about them, reading games wikis is something I often do, especially if their are categories and types of things to read through and learn more about.

The PS2 was also a source of family gaming together, as I said my mum and nan both had favourite games on it alongside me and my brother but there were also games we would play versing each other such as London Racer II, Shrek Smash n’ Crash Racing and as I said previously Cel Damage Overdrive.

Common games just me and my brother would play against each other though were Star Wars Battlefront II, one of the best games ever as well as this awesome Shrek fighting game and there was this one Tom and Jerry fighting game as well. There was also so much more that I might talk about another time as it is just too much to fit in here.

Up next to enter into my gaming life was the Nintendo DS, starting with Nintendo Dogs, where you owned a bunch of virtual dogs of varying breeds and just looked after them forever, feeding them, grooming them, taking them on walks and finding new things for them, buying them new toys and the stuff they need from the shop, teaching them tricks, taking them to dog athletics and all, I really loved that game and still do. The DS is where I also played New Super Mario Bros, now it was not my first Mario game encounter, I had already played one of the Mario Bro games on my Gameboy that I also had at the time, but here is where I really got into Mario games on my DS, New Super Mario Bros was awesome and also the Mariokart DS game as well, which me and my brother often played versus each other, both on racing and the balloon battle mode, I also loved the Challenge modes where you had to do various activities.

Me and my brother and sometimes also my cousin use to mess around on the Nintendo DS built-in software that allowed you to create pictures and send them in like a weird chat room format, it was just something fun to mess around on a lot, even though it was pretty much pointless as we was often within ear shot of each other. Then we have Mario Party as well on my DS, me my brother and even my older sister use to like playing that together a lot as well.

On from this I got a PSP on one of my birthday’s and the game I played most on that was Loco Roco and Loco Roco 2, I really, really loved those games, it was so peaceful, relaxing, fun and satisfying to play around with a squishy ball thing and eat those big red fruits to make them bigger and I wish that a 3rd one would be made as it may prompt me to maybe obtain a PS Vita. Such a relaxing game, I just can’t state that enough.

It was also round about this time we got a Nintendo Wii which was another big part of my childhood. I loved playing Bowling on Wii Sports with much of the family. New Super Mario. Bros Wii was another great one as well as Mario Kart Wii. The Wii Fit was fun to do, I enjoyed playing the mini games with my mum and brother and that then brings me to how great the Wii was for family party games, boy they were so good for Christmas time or just any general time you wanted to have a good laugh, playing with your Mii’s on the various party games the Wii had to offer. And man did we have fun creating so many random Mii’s, we of course created the max you could and most of them were just super bazare, they all had their own names of which we mostly even remembered, they were all a big family!

And that concludes part 1, Thank you for reading this first part, please share far and wide, it really helps! Part 2 will be up next week!
