The Weekly Update #7 – Life is a Road of Obstacles Until you Reach Success

Well. Currently it is quite an unfortunate time for myself – and others. This is in regards to the Programming Course I had been doing that has since been discontinued for the Prince’s Trust cohort specifically. This was due to a policy conflict between them and ServiceNow.

This meant that suddenly during the middle of Thursday’s lesson all of us Prince’s Trust individuals were pulled out and basically chucked off the course. Bureaucracy strikes again! I hate bureaucracy so, so much but unfortunately nobody knows anything better and we keep having to deal with these kinds of hiccups when they crop up.

This is sad since I have really enjoyed the course even in the small amount of time I was able to partake in it. The lab instances are so fun to tinker with – the ebooks are enjoyable to read and learn from – the ServiceNow instructor we had was magnificent, as well as all the supporting staff – everyone was very friendly. And I discovered I really love CMDB and Service Now’s Flow Designer.

Now – there is a chance that I will have the opportunity to try again in November – but there is in my own opinion a very big ‘if’ hanging over that – specifically I am skeptical that ServiceNow would be willing to work with Prince’s Trust again after this corporate screw up. They benefit from having us there for the fact we would have been more people pumped into the tech sector – a growing area desperate for jobs. So, a loss there is bad business – considering we were on a free non-commercial version of the course funded via organisations and other entities. Usually, a commercial version of such a course would be unaffordable for many.

I shall remain hopeful and if the opportunity does arise again, I will certainly be taking it. Luckily, I have the luxury of time on my side as well as financial and residential stability for the foreseeable future. Many others on that programme did not have that luxury and simply cannot afford to wait all the way until November for the CHANCE that the opportunity of a lifetime may arise again. Not even to say many of them gave up other opportunities for this. It is quite simply – a tragedy. And it affects many vulnerable people who have already faced continued stomping down and setbacks throughout their life.

Sadly, many of them will now have to settle for less due to this corporate fumble that should have been seen by the ‘relevant hidden peoples’ far in advance of the course beginning.

The Prince’s Trust will still be there for those of us who need support and I know many of their frontline people are trying their hardest to help us. The Prince’s Trust is ultimately still a magnificent organisation and I highly recommend those young people who are struggling in life to get in contact with them. Unfortunately, these things happen – everything is fallible. Could it have been handled better? Yes. Does that mean I should give up? No.

And I am not giving up. I shall continue to receive support from the Prince’s Trust. I shall also be doing a maths course in September to try and improve my numbers skills that are so lacking – and hopefully get a much better GCSE grade on it. I shall continue to look out for opportunities.

I shall also be starting up FreeCodeCamp again and I shall be doing that over the next number of weeks. So, due to that I shall still be keeping myself busy. So – expect the usual format to continue as of now. But of course, as that is more flexible, I shall make time for some of the more usual blogs I had been doing prior to starting the ill-fated Programming course.

Sad news. But I am going to continue on nonetheless. Life is a road of obstacles until you finally meet success. Giving up ensures success never comes. So don’t give up!

I shall now be treating myself to some fried chicken thighs and drumsticks with chips, I deserve it.
